Idioms

1. ants in one's pants

Meaning: unable to sit still or remain calm out of nervousness or excitement. 

Sentence: Lisa had ants in her pants the day before her interview.

 

2.  smell a rat

Meaning: to feel that something is wrong. 

Sentence: I smell a rat. There is something wrong with the free credit card offer. 

 

3. have a cow

Meaning: to become very angry and upset about something.

Sentence: Our teacher had a cow when nobody prepared for the class.

 

4. eat like a horse 

Meaning: to eat a lot. 

Sentence: My brother eats like a horse.

 

5. separate the sheep from the goats

Meaning: to divide people into two groups.

Sentence: We had to separate the sheep from the goats when we began to make selections for the school choir.

 

6. monkey see, monkey do

Meaning: someone copies something that someone else does.

Sentence: It is monkey see, monkey do for the boy. He copies everything that his friend does.
